Purpose & Beliefs

We are:

Ordinary People
In love with Jesus
Committed to changing the world

In simplest terms, we believe:

God created the world
God loves the world
The world’s a mess
God sent Jesus to rescue the world

Jesus Christ, dirty dishwater, and sponges:

We spill a lot. Not on purpose. We’re just spill-inclined. But then, that’s why sponges are on the planet. We spill and sponges un-spill. Sponges tuck away all the droplets of pea soup and soggy bread chunks that fail to reach their intended destination. And, when a sponge is sufficiently heavy with spills, it is wrung out. With great fervor, it is squeezed and twisted.

Jesus is a sponge.

He was sent to deal with the breakfast table of humanity, collecting spilled lives and stale hearts, hiding away the mysterious sticky substances in our lives we’re too fearful to identify. Then, like all sponges, Jesus was wrung out. He died a criminal’s death on a cross, draining away what he had absorbed onto himself.

We are a community of people who spill more often than not. We trust Jesus to deal with the messes too big for us to handle. We’re slowly learning what it means to help other people with their spills.

The church is part of God’s design to encourage and support believers, and to work in bringing about good in the community and the world.

Why we do it…

(In the words of one of our area pastors)

“The world seems to be bombarded with bad news everyday and it is unfortunate that negativity and hopelessness are on the rise. That being said, I feel blessed to offer hope, love, peace, and joy to students who seem to be desperately looking for ‘something more’. I feel privileged to share what I think life is all about and help in changing lives. I offer a different answer — the truth –to hurting high school students.”  – Tim Lukei | North Irvine Area Campus Pastor
